Service Description

Explore the world of light aviation and gain an insight into what it takes to gain a Private Pilot Licence. Learn how to take-off and land, how to speak to Air Traffic Control and how to deal with onboard emergencies! Have you ever wondered what it is like to fly a light aircraft? Are you curious about how difficult it really is? This class looks at the world of flight from the perspective of holding a Private Pilot Licence. Imagine preparing your aircraft for flight, taking a seat with your instructor, and practicing your radio calls! This class is discussion-based and uses photos, video, and slides to introduce you to the world of private aviation and flying light aircraft. ✈️ Session 1: The Airplane – Exploring the fuselage and cockpit. Interact in an onscreen quiz to check your understanding of your aircraft and its main equipment. Think about the personal equipment you will need on board and consider which skills are needed to hold a licence to fly! ✈️ Session 2: Over and Out! Learn and practice some of the main radio calls you will experience on your first flight. Learn how the pilot uses the transponder and sets the codes for radio failure, emergency, and hijack! Challenge yourself to learn the aviation phonetic alphabet and decide on your call name! ✈️ Session 3: You have control, I have control. Take a 'walk through' your first flight with your instructor and investigate the primary effect of each of the main flight controls. Challenge yourself to learn the mnemonic, BUMPFICHH to make sure it is safe to land! ✈️ Session 4: Emergency on board! Air travel is generally very safe, but a good pilot must be prepared for all eventualities. Do you think you would have the skills to handle an onboard emergency? Find out how to approach a forced landing, loss of radio or fire on board! Can you use your judgment to find a safe place to land? Collaboration in the classroom is warmly encouraged. Whilst most classes do not require student video to be on, this class is best delivered with video and sound participation. If this would be a problem for your child, then please do reach out to us.
